The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa introduced a voluntary grading system in 2001, with ratings from one to five stars. Properties are rated according to the standards of furnishings, service and guest care, rather than the range of facilities. Up to date listings and descriptions of several graded establishments can be found on this website.
