Simonstown in Cape Town, South Africa is actually spelled Simon's Town and is a well known quintessentially English seaside village and navy port, on the False Bay coast near Cape Point where uniformed sailors and holidaymakers mingle. Curio shops and cafés pack the single main street, which is full of whitewashed Cape Dutch gables rubbing shoulders with intricate Victorian balustrades.  Simon's Town is vibrant during the day (especially in summer), but empties out in the evening, for no other reason than everybody has gone home or to Cape Town's more lively suburbs!

Simon's Town Waterfront

Simon's Town awoke from a contented slumber after the opening of its new Waterfront complex. Shops and restaurants are now jangling with summertime activity and its success has created a vibrant atmosphere in this little town. The Simonstown (or better Simon's Town) Waterfront is small and friendly and its 4 star Quayside Hotel retains an intimate quality (tel: 021 786-3838).

One of Simonstown's major annual events is the Simon's Town Penguin Festival.
