Township streets are hectic with speeding mini-bus taxis dodging carts pulled by patient donkeys. Spaza shops sell anything from groceries to gearboxes and traders peddle hubcaps and skin creams, potatoes and cigarettes, on the side of the road. Sangomas (traditional healers) 'throw the bones' to tap into the wisdom the ancestors for those that need assistance, while the same people crowd into Churches on Sundays.
Feisty township residents trade from their homes, their backyards, and out of shipping containers or shopping trolleys. Despite the dense living conditions and high unemployment, they realise that they need to help themselves, so ambitious entrepreneurs are to be found everywhere.
